What Orbit collects, why, and what it never shares.

An app that tells you someone is near you can be misused to work out where that person is. If you show an exact distance, someone can take readings from a few different places and cross them to find an address. This has happened to real people on other proximity apps. So Orbit does not show distance. Nobody is ever told how far away you are, in any unit, at any precision. The app receives only a word — close by, nearby, around you, in the area — and your coordinates are never sent to another person's phone in any form. Your position is stored in a table no client application can read, used only to answer "who is around" on our servers, and removed shortly after you stop being discoverable. We also limit how often discovery can be requested, and going invisible in You → Who You See deletes your stored position immediately.
Orbit is a social discovery app for adults. It helps you meet people who are physically nearby and open to meeting. Whatever comes of that is up to the two of you.
Your name, date of birth, gender, photos, your interests, and your discovery settings (search radius, age range, interest filters). We collect your date of birth to enforce that Orbit is 18+. We do not display your birthday to anyone.
If you get Photo Verified, we process a verification selfie to confirm you match your profile photos. The selfie is used for that review and then deleted. It is never shown on your profile and never shown to other people.
While you have Orbit open and are visible nearby, Orbit processes your device location to work out who is around you. We request "While Using the App" access only — never Always, and we do not track you in the background. Your coordinates are stored in a private table that no other person's app can read. Other people are only ever told a broad band: close by, nearby, or around you. We never send another person your latitude, longitude, bearing, geohash, exact distance, address, or movement history.
You can turn "visible nearby" off at any time in the You tab. While it is off you do not appear to anyone, and we stop processing your location for discovery.
We record the waves you send and receive, and the approximate area where the two of you were near each other so we can show it to you both. When someone waves at you they can see your profile — that is the point of a wave. Waving back creates a connection and opens chat.
Messages are stored so they can be delivered and shown to you and the person you're talking to. Messages are not end-to-end encrypted, because reports of harassment need to be reviewable. We access message content only to investigate a report or where the law requires it.
When you report someone, we keep the report, the reason, anything you write, and the related account and message context so our moderation team can act on it and can recognize repeat behavior. Reports are not shown to the person reported.
If you allow notifications we store a push token. We collect basic device and app information — model, OS version, app version, crash and performance logs — to keep Orbit working.
To operate the service, to show you relevant people, to enforce 18+, to keep people safe, to prevent fraud and abuse, and to meet legal obligations. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use your photos to train models.
Location points are kept only while you are visible nearby and are deleted shortly afterwards. Verification selfies are deleted after review. Waves are deleted when they are withdrawn or when they expire. Profile data, connections and messages stay until you delete your account. Reports and moderation records are retained longer to keep repeat offenders out.
Supabase (database, storage, authentication and functions), Apple (Sign in with Apple and push notifications), and our error and analytics providers. They act on our instructions.
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access to production data is limited and logged. Discovery, Waves and messaging are authorized on the server — nothing is protected only by hiding a button in the app.
You can access, correct, export, or delete your data. Depending on where you live you may also object to or restrict certain processing. Email abasefi0207@gmail.com.
You → Delete Account removes your profile, photos, verification data, active session, stored location, Waves, connections, push tokens and authentication credentials, and revokes your Sign in with Apple token. Messages you sent are removed from your account; limited records are retained where we are required to keep them for safety or legal reasons.
Orbit is for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly allow anyone under 18 to create an account, and we remove any account we find.
